why do the blog? very simply to inspire and spread the love of Jesus :) the blog is full of images that (hopefully) get you thinking and messages that teach about God’s love for us.

Freedom and victory through Christ!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

Sometimes we struggle with recurring sin. There is a part of our lives we can’t get under control. No matter how much we try, we return to that sin or in other words that form of bondage. Some bondages people are under:

· Jealousy

· Self-harm/ self hate

· Pornography addiction/ other sexual sin

· Gossip

The list goes on. However if we think about it, how can you get yourself out of a pit? I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t make sense to me. If we are stuck or trapped or bonded in sin, we need Jesus to help free us. By dying on the cross, Jesus died for ALL of your sins. I repeat ALL. “Therefore there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus”.- Romans 8:1

So, if Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sins (or a bridge between us and God that covers our sin) then he is the one who sets us free. “for it is by grace you have been saved… not by works so that no man can boast.” Ephesians 2 vs 8/9 (paraphrased). The bible tells us it’s his GRACE that saves us. He has won the battle over death and sin on our behalf, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t still struggle.

Of course, as Paul said “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” and so we’re bound to fall short of Gods standard but Jesus has the VICTORY. Yes I stumble but Jesus lifts me up, yes I make mistakes but “there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus”! It’s not about perusing perfection through our works (which didn’t save us in the first place!) it’s about pursuing Jesus and the freedom he has given us!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) sin traps us, sin can take over our lives, those sources of bondage above and others can become something we live for or something we live constantly fighting against with our own weak flesh. But the word of God says that it is for FREEDOM that God set us free! It is for FREEDOM that Jesus dies for you and I! It is not so that we can run back into sin or try and not sin through our own might, but Jesus provides the salvation and solution.

If you return to God when you sin, and you bring before the Lord- who loves you ENDLESSLY- sin you’re struggling with, HE sets you free. Also one thing I learned watching a biblical meeting on thevous.com is that sometimes we need to find a brother or sister in Christ to share this issue with who will pray with us and help us find freedom in prayer and the scriptures which are filled with God’s promises for us.

HE died so that we could be free. What’s your source of bondage? No matter what “all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me” and through him who overcame the world, we can overcome any sin or source of bondage.

Scriptures on freedom:

In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and He answered by setting me free. (Psalm 118:5)

Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God— through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:24-25)

But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation. (Colossians 1:22)

2 Corinthians 3:17

The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

We have to realize—our mistakes aren’t that powerful. Our mistakes aren’t too big for God. He’s not up in the heavens shaking His head saying, “I never dreamed they would do that. They’ve ruined My plan.” No, God knew every mistake we would ever make. He knew every wrong turn, and He’s already prepared a new route. He already has your detour figured out.

Scripture says that God knows the end from the beginning. If you’ve made some mistakes, the good news is that He has already planned a way to get you back on track! Just come to Him with an open and humble heart. Let Him wash you clean and make you new. Your mistakes aren’t bigger than God. He loves you and has a good plan in store for you!

Bible Study: John 5 vs 35-41

The passage talks about the Jewish religious leaders who “study the scriptures diligently because [they] think that in them you have eternal life. They are the very scriptures that testify about me, and yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” (me as in Jesus who said this)

Wow. These religious leaders were so caught up in religion that they missed the point of the scriptures they so “diligently” study. The scriptures they were reading at the time were from the Old Testament (obviously because the New Testament record Jesus’ life etc). The scriptures where “about me” said Jesus. If you read the Old Testament, it documents life when man was trying to reach God. There was a gap (sin) that needed to be filled by sacrifice.

One of the events in the old testament that clearly display that they were “about [him]” was in Genesis 22 when Abraham was asked to sacrifice his teenage son Isaac. The bible says that God said to Abraham “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” But God didn’t let Isaac die. That was not the son that needed to die Jesus would be sent. God is the one who “ gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Yet the religious leaders could not see that these stories where a shadow of what was to come. They could not recognise Jesus as the messiah. In fact earlier in the chapter vs 1-15 they were scolding the man Jesus had just healed and enabled to walk, for carrying his matt on the Sabbath. They were constantly following rules which actually took their attention off seeking God. 2 Timothy 3 vs 5 says “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof”. This is what the Jewish leaders were doing, they were outwardly displaying “godliness” by “diligently” studying the scriptures but they missed the point of them. Jesus. By doing this they actually “deny” the power of God, which is what they are seeking.

Religion distracts you by focussing your energies on obeying rules and traditions, and takes your eyes away from God. When we get into the word of God with a heart to know him we understand its true meaning, the fact it’s a story of love and redemption.

Easter- The Cross

Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins, and bring us LIFE! Sin leads to death and is what separated us from God. But “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

What does this mean?

1 Suffering completed

2 Sacrifice fulfilled

3 Satan defeated

4 Salvation secured

All our burdens, all our shame God our freedom- he has overcome! We dont need to make sacrifices, they wont be enough. Nothing we do will be enough. He is the final and perfect sacrifice for sin.

Jesus last words on the cross: “Tetelestai” (it is finished)

Turn to him who loves you, unconditionally, unendingly. Remember that the SAME power and spirit that raised Jesus from the grave, lives IN US.
